      <image:caption>The Day &amp; Night messages appear at the beginning and end of the day, signifying the change in dangers on the island. A function triggers on time of day change that then reveals this widget, but an issue I encountered was that the initial Dawn message would trigger during an intro train when starting the mode. To circumvent this, I skipped the initial trigger, and made the intro train trigger the Dawn message when it was complete.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The choppa parts are all a custom parameterized material to allow for flexibility for designers to change images and color through animations or code. This was a challenge for I’m not an expert in materials, but it ended up paying off because, as I hoped, designers could iterate very quickly. Parameters include the icon, color of the icon, border, fill, and a ping animation, and scale of all the previously mentioned.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The Bounty Complete messaging not only displays when you eliminate your target, but when an enemy eliminates them, an ally, when to eliminate an ally’s, and when they eliminate themselves. Each of these situations display different reward information and text above it. To keep track of all of this, I made a spreadsheet with each situation and resulting message listed. This was beneficial to QA for testing and other designers that worked on the widget. I also had to duplicate a world space material from an in-game hologram and do drastic modifications to allow it to display the hologram in the UI.</image:caption>

While an entirely different shape, my experience learning in the aforementioned material made this a relatively easy task. I was also able to recognize that there were certain aspects of the choppa HUD mockup that would require huge amounts of material rework and producers were able to make a judgement call on skipping these aspects.</image:caption>

In the bottom center is a HUD widget that displays the player’s abilities. When a player uses an ability, it will enter a cooldown and a filling animation appears over the icon. The eyeball switches between 3 closed and open states to tell the player how visible they are to other players. To achieve the complex material animation for the cooldown, I was able to successfully pick apart an existing cooldown animation from a previous mode and reassemble to work with any shaped icon and apply it to our ghost abilities.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The fare UI is the first time I had to dive into materials. By searching the Fortnite project for similar materials, I was able to put together a simple circular material that an image could be applied to and would mask the edges of the image to create the rider portrait. That knowledge combined with more existing materials, I created the radial progress bars for the bonus challenges. Understanding the usefulness of parameterized materials made me volunteer to work on any material related tasks, and even choose to create materials over building a complex widget.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The versus screen was one of my first LTM tasks, and it proved to be a big layout challenge. The player names needed to be rotated and animated to slide out a specific angle that was consistent with the stripes. In order to achieve the look of the player portraits being cut off by the edge of the color stripes, I had to learn about the clipping setting on widgets, which I had not used before, to visually bound the image.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The bracket screen was another big undertaking. To create the bracket lines, instead of using fixed textures, I used combinations of large horizontal and vertical boxes with small spacers in between that are filled with white. Because all of these boxes space themselves out equally, and with the assistance of padding, I was able to make a bracket screen that could scale gracefully with any number of teams. If more teams needed to be added, then I would just multiply the boxes on either side.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>While the layout of the main menu initially seems simple, skinning it was no small task. And one of the largest parts of the task was constantly trying to maintain the proper visuals and intractability between various states of in-lobby/out-of-lobby, host/non-host, and ready/not-ready. The key to this was working with engineering to have these states stored and maintained elsewhere while the UI uses getter functions to retrieve the states.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Almost every button in Wayfinder has a notched frame, previously achieved with different textures for different sizes, widths, and angles. To cut down on texture bloat, I created a flexible material with the potential to replace most of these textures. This also allowed the frames to have more interesting animation, like increasing the stroke size on hover.</image:caption>
